Alex Winstanley is a best-selling author and award-winning social entrepreneur from Wigan, England.
His background as a teacher and a carer for the past ten years led to him setting up a not-for-profit organisation in 2019 alongside one of the young men he cared for.
Happy Smiles Training CIC was set up to empower disabled people to create positive social change, by delivering awareness and inclusion training across schools, community groups businesses and more. Their team have positively impacted over 3500 people in the past two years.
When Covid-19 initially prevented the team from working in schools, Alex found another way to positively impact children and young people. He began to write children's books, with the aim of raising awareness of a range of long-term health conditions, in a positive and supportive way, for children and young people.
He is extremely passionate about promoting a diverse and inclusive society, where every person is valued and celebrated. Each book is inspired by real people, as Alex believes nothing is more important than giving a voice to those with lived experience.
His first book, 'My Grandma Has Dementia', inspired by his own grandma, won a Dementia Hero Award 2021. See more about his first book here. You can also see Alex talking about his second book, 'My Uncle Has Depression', featured on ITV News here. See more on Alex's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & website.
All book sales directly support the work of Happy Smiles Training CIC. See more about their nationally recognised work on their website or on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
